Engine List for Swap Engine in Nissan Cars

We return to the review of the swap engine modification. This time we will discuss about swap engines in Nissan cars.

I will not explain the meaning and purpose of engine swaps, because we have previously discussed engine swap reviews in Toyota cars  . For a discussion on Honda cars, please see here .

Nissan is a car manufacturer from Japan, which since 2013 is mostly owned by Renault. Although its name is not as well-known as its compatriots, namely Toyota and Honda in terms of car reliability, Nissan has several popular car names in the automotive world. Call it the Nissan Skyline, Nissan GTR, Nissan Silvia, and Nissan Fairlady. Not to mention cars from their other car divisions such as Infiniti and Datsun.

For the engine itself, Nissan has an easy and concise naming system. The first letters indicate the engine family, which is then connected to the engine capacity. The letters at the end indicate the features of the machine. For example, the RB20DET engine means the RB engine family with a 2000cc engine capacity equipped with DOHC (D), Electronic Port Fuel Injection (E) and Turbocharger (T) features.

The Nissan cars that will be discussed here will of course be limited to Nissan cars circulating in Indonesia. Apart from that, we have narrowed it down again, specifically discussing old cars because it seems that it is rare for people to swap engines in the latest cars, hehe.

The engine swaps in this review do not include cross-brand engine swaps with the consideration that most people want their cars to still have the same ‘DNA’. I compiled this list from cyberspace searches haha, namely articles, domestic and foreign car community forums, Youtube and others.

List of Nissan Cars for Engine Swap

Nissan Sunny/ Sentra (B13)

Unlike its boxy predecessor, the B12, the B13’s design is not too big, so it’s quite pleasing to the eye. In Indonesia, this car was used as a taxi fleet so that it can be obtained at a fairly cheap price. The difference between Sunny B13 and Sentra B13 is like the Toyota Limo and Vios. Sentra Genesis is a non-taxi version which from the factory default is equipped with power windows, power steering, exclusive interior, and others.

For engine swap modification, the B13 can use two engine families, namely CA and SR. The engine options are CA18DET and SR20DET. The CA engine has the same engine mounting as the B13’s built-in GA engine. Swap to the SR engine can be done because the B13 has a variant with the SR engine. Installation of the CA machine is easy because of the bolt-in swap, aka the rim , while for the SR machine, modification of the mount is required first.

CA18DET engines are hard to find unless we purposely order through a general importer. Unlike the SR engine which is quite often encountered. However, the SR20DET engine is mostly an engine with an RWD layout. As for the FWD or AWD layout, it’s also a bit difficult to find. Except if we can change the layout of the B13 to AWD.

There are also some B13 users who immerse the SR20VE/VET engine. This machine has a Neo VVL (Variable Valve Lift) feature, a kind of VTEC on Honda or VVTL-i on Toyota.

Nissan Sunny/ Sentra (B14)

The B14, which was produced from 1993 to 1998, already has a more modern and exclusive body than its two older brothers. For engine modifications, it is still the same as its predecessor B13. This car can use a choice of CA and SR engine families.

Swapping to SR20VE/VET on B14 is easier than on B13. The step-by-step process has been found in many Nissan community forums abroad such as sr20forum .

Nissan Cefiro A31

This sedan, which is included in the luxury class, has become one of my favorite cars for Nissan’s engine swap. Besides being equipped with exclusive features such as a projector headlamp, this car also has an elegant exterior design and is quite sporty.

The main factor why this Cefiro is such a good choice for an engine swap modification is its relationship with the legendary Nissan car, the Skyline . This is what makes this car has a variety of engine replacement options and powerful. In addition, several other car parts such as the legs can use parts from the sports car coupe series, the Nissan Silvia.

This car with an RWD layout is one of the best choices for both novice and professional racers, especially in drifting racing. No wonder Cefiro is one of the drift cars with a cheap budget that is often hunted by drifters.

The engines that can be used on Cefiro are the RB series from Skyline such as the RB20DET, RB25DET, and RB26DETT. Because it is still in the same family, the installation process is relatively easy. For Cross DNA, Cefiro has also been found with legendary Toyota engines such as the 1JZ, 2JZ, and 1UZFE V8. However, it certainly takes time, money and extra experience.

For those of you who want a lighter engine but the performance is still fierce, you can also immerse the ‘small’ but spicy engine, namely the SR20DET.

Nissan Terrano

This SUV, which is thick with off-road nuances, is often replaced by the engine to get even more power. One of the variants of the Terrano has an engine from the VG engine family. Therefore, engine replacement is often done by immersing a powerful engine from the VG family such as the VG30DETT from the Nissan Fairlady Z/300ZX.

Swap engine on Terrano generally by changing the engine to a large capacity engine. However, there are also some users who have managed to embed the legendary small but biting Nissan engine, the SR20DET in their cars.

Nissan Cedric/ Gloria

This sedan is quite unique because it has a diesel engine that has an elegant appearance. The most noticeable advantage is the comfort that matches the Toyota Crown. In the past, this car had been used as a state car to escort guests to the summit. After his term of service, Bluebird then bought this car to be used as an exclusive taxi fleet in the Silverbird section. Therefore it feels very fitting for Cedric if it is modified with the JDM VIP stream. The RWD layout is also suitable to be used as a drift car even though it is constrained by its large weight.

Discussing the engine swap on this car is indeed a bit difficult because of the limited information in world automotive forums and articles. However, when viewed from the engine family, this car is likely to be swapped to the VG engine family.
